Who is Cressida Bonas?
Who is Cressida Bonas?
Cressida Bonas is the daughter of Lady Mary-Gaye Georgiana Lorna Curzon and business owner Jeffrey Bonas. Cressida is also the grand-daughter of an Earl (also called a Lord).
Her mother and maternal grandfather are members of the peerage. Cressida herself did not inherit a title as a descendant of titled peers. The peerage are aristocrats who have been given their titles by a king or queen of England.
Cressida's father, Jeffrey Bonas, is the owner of MacCulloch & Wallis Ltd, a fabric supply company in London. Prince Harry is 29 years old to Cressida's 24 years. She is a Leeds University graduate.
Reports abound that Harry has chosen Cressida to be his wife. We hope this pans out and they soon marry. They make a handsome couple.
Cressida: Royalty, Peerage, or Commoner?
While it is no longer expected for royal family members of most of the houses of Europe to marry other members of royalty or the peerage, as stated above, Cressida is indeed a member of that peerage, just as Diana Spencer and Sarah Ferguson were. Kate Middleton was not, though she is now a royal.
The term "commoner" tends to get thrown around when a person is not a royal. But there is a difference between a complete commoner and a member of the peerage. In the 1980s, the media constantly commented on Lady Diana Spencer being a commoner, but she was not. She was a member of the peerage. Though Cressida is not styled as a "Lady," she is still not a commoner, because her bloodline through her mother is peerage.
